School of Education - Teacher Education and Higher Education

HS-6082 Holt WilsonWelcome to the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education (TEHE). We provide academic and practical preparation for educational leaders from the elementary grades to higher education. To achieve this goal, we offer programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels in a variety of educational disciplines. Our teacher education (TED) programs prepare state public school teachers at all levels. Our higher education (HED) programs professionals to work in student affairs and higher education administration at colleges and universities. Graduates from all our programs draw from knowledge of educational theory, policy, research, and practices to engage those they work with in the active construction of knowledge, to enact culturally responsive principles, to adapt to the specific needs of their students or clients, and to assess and respond to their performances. Above all, our faculty members are committed to the success of our students.

The department has a dynamic and highly engaged faculty whose research keeps them at the cutting edge of their disciplines and informs their teaching. As teachers, they draw upon their academic knowledge and teaching expertise to support students’ success. Our students are bright and committed to their chosen fields, complete extensive internships, and have opportunities to participate in field-based projects. Many of our programs involve working with the community, whether they are communities of practicing teachers, emerging scientists from high schools, freshman just entering higher education, or elementary school writers.

Schools and universities seek out TEHE graduates because of our reputation for excellent professional preparation. I invite you to explore our programs and our projects as you consider your educational options.
