University Reading Clinic

University of North Carolina at Greensboro Reading Clinic

Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education

Purpose

Our goal is to help struggling readers in first through eighth grades become confident, active readers.  Our clinic has two sessions. In each of these sessions, your child will read with the same graduate reading tutor.  This is individual, not group tutoring.

The fall session begin in October.  Each session is on a Thursday evening from 6:30-7:30pm.  During our fall session, graduate students administer several assessments (Informal Reading Inventory, Spelling Inventory, and Motivation Survey) and use the results to create a personalized tutoring plan. A copy of the assessment results and the instructional recommendations will be shared with each parent and the reader’s classroom teacher in December.

The spring session begins in January.  The clinic meets from 6:30-7:30pm on Thursday evenings. During each session, students will participate in guided and independent reading, as well as phonics and fluency instruction.  At the end of the spring clinic, the UNCG graduate student will write a report that describes the student’s progress as well as suggestions for summer reading.
